GUELPH, ON. October 27, 2010 – Canadian film composer Alexander Doan is coming to Guelph on Friday, October 29 as part of Guelph’s newest music school’s educational series.  The Music Corner is holding a series of events called What’s Around the Corner, where guests will have an opportunity to meet active Canadian professional musicians and discover what steps are needed to work in that particular facet of the music industry.

“As a school, it is important to us to not only equip our students with the tools to become good musicians, but to provide education on what’s available to them following their musical studies. What’s Around the Corner does just that.  It is an opportunity for students, parents, and friends of The Music Corner to discover what music careers are down the road and to meet the professionals who are doing those jobs.  Students and guests will discover that there’s more to the industry than teaching and performing.” Nancy Kaczorowski, co-owner of The Music Corner and locally grown musician stated.

Guests who attend Friday evening’s session will have an opportunity to discover how music contributes to the mood, atmosphere and colour of a movie script, as well as hearing about Alexander’s journey to the big screen.  In this highly interactive session, guests will have a Q&A with Alexander Doan, screen a film, and write a movie score together.

“We are thrilled that Alexander Doan is coming to speak to our students and guests on what it’s like to be a composer in the Canadian film industry.  So often we think of the glamour that Hollywood affords and don’t think about the opportunities at home.  Yet the Canadian film industry is thriving and there’s opportunity for local kids to make headway in the industry.” Lee-Ann Kaczorowski, co-owner of The Music Corner and Guelph native stated.

The event starts at 7 pm at the Guelph Youth Music Centre, 75 Cardigan Street.  Advanced tickets are on sale for $10 or guests can purchase tickets at the door for $15.  Contact The Music Corner for tickets: themusiccornerguelph@gmail.com.
