Alexander’s score for the Nick Butler directed short film, ‘A Thing of The Past‘, was completed on Sunday, August 17, 2008, and is being delivered to the director to be added to the film on the following day.  See below for a short synopsis of the film.

A THING OF THE PAST - When Alex is invited to his ex-boyfriend, Zack’s house for dinner, his hopes are high that a reconciliation is in store.  But everything changes when he makes the shocking discovery that Zack has undergone a twelve-step program to ‘convert’ to heterosexuality and is now engaged to a Blackberry-toting business woman, Casey.  As an increasingly awkward dinner unfolds, Alex becomes determined to win Zack back!

April 24, 2008 (TORONTO, ONT.) – In his debut solo album, ‘From Score To Screen, film composer Alexander Doan showcases his diversity of music styles, revealing spunky action-based melodies in ‘Vigilante’…easy-listening jazz chords in ‘Coke and Water’…and haunting yet compelling vocals and music apropos for ‘The Tale of Gabriel Grub’s’ dark romantic theme.

This debut album reveals Alexander’s melodic approach to composition, and features many of his music styles, which include orchestral, classical, vocal, jazz, electronic, 20th Century, and East Indian. Since obtaining a music degree from Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont., and studying composition at York University in Toronto, Alexander has composed scores for drama, horror, documentary, action, and comedy films.

As a performer, Alexander is an award-winning clarinetist, as well as a saxophonist, flautist and pianist. Recently, some of his personal compositions were presented during a night of music at The Central, located in the heart of Toronto’s historic Mirvish Village.
